As states like New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Tennessee move forward with plans for free college tuition, California is falling behind. For decades, we have cut funding for public higher education and hiked tuition to compensate. Those funding cuts have put current students in a pinch, and the high cost of college tuition sends the message to young people that college is only for those who can pay for it themselves.
We are building a coalition of students and allies to restore the promise of free college tuition in California. Together, we are working to:
1. Eliminate college tuition to expand access to public, higher education
2. Protect students from debt by helping cover additional costs of college
3. Invest in public colleges and universities so they can graduate more students
